Obituary

Zella Robinson Lineberry passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025 at the age of 103, leaving behind a legacy of love that will echo for generations. A lifelong resident of Woodlawn, Virginia, she was born on January 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Oscar and Lillie Robinson. Zella grew up with a deep sense of faith, strength, and devotion that carried throughout her life. She truly was the heart of her family. Though her earthy journey has ended, her presence lives on in every story told about her feistiness, every recipe passed down, and every life she touched with her gentle hands and steady heart.

Zella was so much more than a mother or a grandmother – she was home. She was the voice of calm in a storm, the keeper of our family's history, and the soft place to land when life felt hard. She raised her family with love, grit, and never let the weight of the world rob her of her tenderness. She was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Vinton B. Lineberry, and her son, DT, two losses she carried with grace, but never stopped feeling. They are now whole again, just as we begin to feel the magnitude of the grief her absence has left behind. She is predeceased also by her grandsons, Jeff "Bondo" Lineberry, and James W. Shanks III. She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Chappell, her granddaughter Cheryl Shanks (Charlie), her granddaughter-in-law Lisa Lineberry, her grandsons: Robert Lineberry, Steven Lineberry,  Donnie Lineberry, Ronnie Lineberry, Vernon Lineberry, great-grandchildren: Courtney "Kortni" Painter (Blake), Victoria Shanks (Ben), April Lineberry (Tyler), Shelby Sowers (Anthony), Abigail Lineberry,  Elizabeth Alexander (Jay) great-great-grandchildren: Zella-Grace Painter, Ila Mabe, William Mabe, Lane Joyce, Harrison Alexander,  Zella Jean Alexander. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and thought a lot of.  She is also remembered by a great many more – neighbors, friends, and anyone lucky enough to have sat at her table. She would always, if you happened to stop by, try to feed you or offer you something to drink.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Monday July 21, 2025 at 12pm in Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Monta Vista Gardens in Galax, with fellowship to follow at her home church, Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church on Mt. Zion Road in Woodlawn, Virginia.

The family will receive friends Monday from 11am until time of the service in Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.

We invite all who loved her, to come, to grieve, to remember, perhaps share a story or two, and to give many thanks for the extraordinary woman that she was. The family would also like to say BLESS YOU, to everyone that contributed to her care or lifted her spirits with a good word, or a kind deed. It was appreciated more than you will ever know. You made a difference.
