Willie Jackson Wilson, age 85, of Elk Creek, Virginia, passed away on September 24, 2025. Born on February 27, 1940, Willie was the beloved son of the late John William Wilson and Vera Virginia Porter Wilson.
Willie proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1959 – 1962 achieving the rank of Sergeant E5. As a specialist gunner in the tanks and reconnaissance squadron, he was stationed in Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Korea, where he dedicated years of service to his country. After his military service, he worked in the Fries Cotton Mill for 21 years and 19 years at Twin County Regional Healthcare.
Willie was deeply loved and admired by his family, church family and community. He leaves behind a legacy through his family, including his four sons and their spouses: Gary and Julie Wilson (Richmond, VA), Mark and Missy Wilson (Elk Creek, VA), Andy and Kim Wilson (Galax, VA), and Jeff and Rheda Wilson (Elk Creek, VA). Willie cherished his seven grandchildren — AJ, Ryan, Christian, Chelsea, Chasity, Chloe, and Ella — and his five great-grandchildren — Madison, Hailey, Brantley, Mya, Ava, and Braelynn.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Nancy Ladd (Richmond, VA) and Barbara Stone (Mt. Airy, NC).
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Frances Louise Wilson, sister, Juanita Robertson, and brothers Donald Wilson, J.W. Wilson, as well as his half-brothers Cecil Wilson, Roy Wilson, Henry Wilson, and half-sister Mildred Phipps.
A celebration of Willie's life will be held Sunday, September 28, at 4:00 p.m. at Atkins Memorial Church (199 Atkins Lane, Fries, VA 24330) with burial immediately following. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
