Willie Reece (Bill) Spears age 85 of Salem, Virginia and formerly of Fries, Virginia passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center.

Mr. Spears was born in Grayson County, Va. on March 20, 1924 to Gurney & Sally Wright Spears. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons Roger Spears and Billy Ray Spears; two sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his sons & daughter-in-law Donald & Freda Spears; Charles Spears all of Salem, Va.; grandchildren & spouse C.J. & Jessica Spears, Brittany Spears; grandson & special friend Corey Spears & Lisa James; all of Salem, Va.; Cody Spears of Hillsville, Va.; great-grandchild Jaydn Spears of Salem, Va.; brother & sister-in-law James & Zoe Spears of Galax, Va.; several nieces & nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 am in Atkins Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Smythers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites by Grayson VFW Post 7726. The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior the funeral service. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
