William Harding Whitaker, 91, of Galax, Virginia passed Friday November 16, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Whitaker was born to Louie Wiley Whitaker and Buria Martin Whitaker on March 27, 1921 in Grayson County, Virginia. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Nellie Mae Patton Whitaker.

He is survived by his daughter Linda Weatherman; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Brenda Whitaker all of Galax; sisters-in-law and spouse: Loretta and Ellis Edwards of Galax; Essie Patton of Hillsville. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Nancy Ball; Steven Whitaker and wife Ginger; Jeff Whitaker and fiancée Michelle Bane; six great-grandchildren Jennifer Ball, Kristen Ball, Joshua Whitaker, Bradley Bobbitt and wife Amanda, Will Bane and Taylor Bane; two great-great grandchildren: Maddason Bobbitt and Maddox Bobbitt.

The funeral service will be held Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Mount Pisgah Church of Christ with Marvin Williams and Lawrence Warden officiating. Interment will follow in the McKenzie Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends Sunday evening November 18, 2012 from 6 until 8 PM at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grover King VFW Post #1115.
