Halsey, William Webb "Bill" of Galax.VA was born in Welch, WV on October 14, 1929 and went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2011.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years- Frances Eads Halsey; a daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Mark Brachey of Grapevine, TX; four grandchildren- Megan and Eric Halsey; Tommy and Andy Brachey; two step grandchildren- Jennifer Hicks and Christopher Robbins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre ceded in death by a son, William W. Halsey, III; a sister Katherine Pugh; and parents Hattie & W. Webb Halsey, Sr.
His education included Galax High School, Georgia Military Academy, North Carolina State University and Armed Forces Infantry Commanders School. He served in the 30th Infantry Regimental Combat Team and was discharged with the rank of Captain.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galax. A retired businessman, he was the owner of Halsey AMC/Jeep and H & H Farms and manager of J. A. Eads Co. He served on the Galax Planning Board, Galax Industrial Development Commission, and Twin County Airport Commission. He was a long term member of the Galax Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and former Jaycee and Lion. He was Potentate of the Kazim Temple in 1990, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #59, Clifton Forge Shrine Club and New River Shrine Club.
He was an active member of the Republican Party. He loved flying and was a chairman of many projects at Twin County Airport.
Family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Galax, Virginia on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2 PM with Pastor Sam Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow in Monta Vista Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites by Oldtown Lodge #58.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children- Greenville Unit; Kazim Shrine, 628 Campbell Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016
