William Ardath Sumner's Obituary
William Ardath Sumner age 88 of Woodlawn, Virginia passed away on February 24, 2014 in Morristown, Tennessee.
He was born July 27, 1925 in Carroll County, Virginia to Elder Samuel Everett Sumner and Lena McCann Sumner. He was preceded in death by a sister Mae Hawks McGraw and a brother, Alton Sumner. He was also predeceased by sons-in-law John Todd and Larry Bryant.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Robinson Sumner; two daughters and son-in-law, Jeanette Sumner Smith and Johnny Smith of Morristown, Tn.; and Freida Sumner Bryant of Ashland, Virginia; grandchildren Mary Beth Bryant of Charlottesville, Va.; Philip and Angela Smith, and Preston Smith of Morristown, Tn.. He also leaves behind many dear friends and loved ones.
He was a member of the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church.
"Bill" retired from Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. after 46 years of employment. He was also a life-long cattle farmer.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 28 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Elder Melvin McGrady and Elder Reuben Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in the Crooked Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
