Obituary

On Wednesday evening, March 11, William Harmon Marion, of Galax, VA., passed away at the age of 92. Mr. Marion had long been an active member of First Baptist Church of Galax, where he often served as a deacon and worked with the Finance Committee. He was retired from Peoples Life Insurance Company. During the 1940s and 50s, Mr. Marion was a member of a local band, playing both the piano and bass. He continued to entertain family and friends with his piano playing for many years. Mr. Marion was preceeded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Frances Marion. He will be missed greatly by his children: Jeanne Lee of Kirkland, WA, Cheryl and Ronnie Tomlin of Mooresville, NC., Peggy Marion of Sterling, VA., Sarah Marion of Roanoke, VA., Mary and Tom Daugherty of Radford, VA., and Anita Isom of Crozet, VA. He is also survived by 6 loving grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as sisters Martha Hayworth, Katherine Roderer, Irene Buikema, and Thelma Walls.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Galax on Sunday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. followed by services in the church at 2:00 p.m., led by Dr. Winford Hendrix. The deacons of !st Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers will be the Goodwill Ambassadors Sunday School class. Burial will be at Monta Vista Cemetery after the services. All family and friends are then invited to return to First Baptist for fellowship in memory of Mr. Marion.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor be made to the Music Fund at First Baptist Church.
