William Leroy Sawyers, age 78, passed away Saturday June 23, 2018 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mr. Sawyers was born May 9, 1940 in Patrick County, Virginia to the late William Walker Sawyers and Susan Smith Sawyers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Gary Sawyers.

Mr. Sawyers is survived by his wife Shirley Sawyers; daughters Linda Russell (Atlanta, Georgia) and Tracy Lyn Lane (Galax, Virginia) and by his sons and their spouses: William Daniel Sawyers and Polly (Augusta, Georgia), Jonathan Lynn Sawyers (Atlanta, Georgia) . He is also survived by six siblings and their spouses: Louise and Ron Jones (Mt. Airy, North Carolina), Josephine Larry (New York), Geneva Reyes and friend Mauricio Castro (Galax, Virginia), Lealur Reddick (Mt. Airy, North Carolina), Walter Lee and Doris Sawyers (Mt. Airy, North Carolina), and Johnny and Treva Sawyers (Galax, Virginia); daughter-in-law Jenny Sawyers of Augusta, Georgia. Mr. Sawyers cherished his grandchildren Shannon McGee, Felicia Grosby, Gary Gibson; Dominique Sawyers; Desdan Sawyers; Jarrett Yievell and Varren Russell; two great-grandchildren Daiden Goodman and Devin Goodman; host of  nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service will be held Saturday June 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Evangelist Juanita Brown and Pastor Randy Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in the Oldtown Cemetery in Galax. The family will receive friends Saturday  from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
