William Jackson Mitchell better known as Billy Mitchell age 87 of Galax, Virginia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hillsville, Virginia.

Mr. Mitchell was born on April 12, 1928 in Carroll County, Virginia to Edgar Jackson and Guida Higgins Mitchell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Edith Blevins Mitchell; daughter Margaret Ann Mitchell and grandson Brent Jackson Mitchell.

He is survived by his daughter Linda Richardson of Galax, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Roger and Barbara Mitchell of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren Susan Cline of Macon, Georgia; Blake Mitchell and his fiancée' Rachel Heape of Charlotte, North Carolina and Braydon Mitchell of Charlotte, North Carolina; sisters and brother-in-law Hilda Fielder of Galax, Virginia; Doris and Donald Davis of Low Gap, North Carolina; three nieces and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy and the Rev. Ted Bartlett officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until time for the service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. The family asks in lieu of food or flowers donations be made to either the Galax Hope House, 408 West Center Street, Galax, Virginia 24333 or to the Lion's Club, 2664 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, Virginia 24343.
