William Edward Akers (1929-2014)
William Edward "Bill" Akers of Galax VA passed away January 18, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem NC. He was born May 15, 1929 in Max Meadows VA to Rolley Akers and Verna Arnold Akers.
Survivors include his son and wife, Rodney and Julie Akers of Marietta GA, daughters Sally McCarty of Bryan TX, and Robbyn Akers of Lexington NC, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one brother, two sisters, several nieces and nephews, and special friend Edna Fink.
Memorial services will be held January 26, 2014 at Bible Baptist Church, Greenville Road, Galax VA with Pastor Ted Bartlett officiating.
Military Memorial Honors will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Canton GA at a date to be decided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, AMVETS, 4647 Forbes Blvd, Lanham, MD 20706, and/or The SECU Family House at Winston Salem, 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
