October 23, 1940 – December 17, 2020
William Harvey Carico finished his race Thursday, December 17 th around 12:30 PM. He was born in Galax, VA to George and Bertha Carico, on October 23 rd 1940. Harvey stole the love of his life, Peggy Ann Hill, away and they eloped to York, SC and they were married for sixty years. He served in the Air Force from 1957-1963. When he returned from his service, he worked for Hanes for over thirty years as a sewing machine mechanic. He gave his heart to Jesus on May 16 th 1976 and he became a new creation. During that time, he completed seminary school while working a fulltime job and taking care of his family. Harvey never knew a stranger and was always eager to tell everyone about the Love of Christ and point them toward the cross. He was called to preach the gospel and he preached with love and all of his heart. Nothing made him happier than to see one come to Christ.
He became a fulltime Pastor and always said it was his greatest privilege. He Pastored Mitchel Chapel Pentecostal Church for twelve years and Woodlawn Pentecostal for eight years. Woodlawn was his home church and he said that God was showing off to allow him to come back home and Pastor at Woodlawn.
Back in the day he enjoyed playing Fast Pitch Softball for the Hanes Team in Galax. His team won many championships and he was quite the pitcher. He was well known for his riser in fast pitch softball, being the family wedding officiant, guitar picking, and song writing.
Harvey is well remembered by all for his gently spirit, his warm smile, his contagious laugh, and his continual and unending desire to see others brought to Christ. He encouraged everyone that he met and was always eager to help you with any project.
Harvey always made time for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. He was patient, kind and loving with his family, smiling, joking and enjoying each day as a gift from God.
After retirement Harvey continued to preach and sing in The Preacher's Choir which traveled to many locations and reached many. He also enjoyed filling in for other pastor's while on vacation or whenever there was an opportunity. Throughout his life he remained about his father's business and is now rejoicing on streets of gold.
