Howard Wayne Chappell, Jr. better known as Chicken Chappell age 76 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday evening, March 14, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Chappell was born in Galax, Virginia on April 26, 1936 to Howard Wayne and Ila Goodson Chappell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Rose Marie Chappell and sons Milton Chappell and Michael Valentine.

Mr. Chappell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Parsons Chappell of Galax, Virginia; children Bonnie and Thomas A. Moody of Chester, Virginia; Chrissy Chappell and Pam Wright of Prince George, Virginia; Chuck and Kelly Chappell of Prince George, Virginia; step-children Lisa Honeycutt of Richmond, Virginia; Lloyd Honeycutt of Danville, Virginia; grandchildren Scott & Terri Moody; Tyler Moody; Joshua Chappell; Sydney Chappell; Jacob Chappell; great-grandchildren Mallory Moody and Evan Moody; step-grandchild Bailey Honeycutt; sisters and brother-in-law Barbara Frazier of New Smyrna, Florida; Jalanda and Tom Smith of Tuscon, Arizona; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the First Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 PM until time for the service at the First Methodist Church.
