Walter Granville Mason, age 89, of Fries, VA died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.

Mr. Mason was born April 6, 1922 in Grayson County, VA to Stephen and Mallie Roberts Mason. Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters, Blanche Parks and Irene Mallory and brothers, John Mason, Dewey Mason and Willie Gale Mason.

He is survived by his wife Ilene Burcham Mason of the home; daughters & son-in-law, Peggy Barker, High Point, NC, Phyllis & M.D. Jackson, Fries, VA; grandchildren, Marion Dyer and Lindsay Jackson, 111, Max Meadows, VA and Derrick Daniel Jackson, Wytheville, VA; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Blair and Owen Dyer Jackson; sister, Maude Funk, Galax, VA; brother, Grady Lee Mason, Fries, VA; special sister-in-law, Linda Burcham, Galax, VA and several nieces & nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Grace Baptist Church with burial in the Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until time for service at the church Tuesday. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Ben Haga. Flowers will be appreciated, however, memorial contributions may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Military rites by the Grayson VFW #7726 will be conducted at the gravesite.
