Obituary

Walter Edward Boyer age 90 of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Boyer was born in Grayson County, Virginia on December 19, 1920 to Elbert and Dixie Roberts Boyer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Clara Boyer and brothers John Boyer and Richard Boyer.

Mr. Boyer was a member of the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church since 1954. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was in the South Pacific as a Signal Corpsman. He was a member of the Fairview Ruritan Club for fifty years plus. He was an employee of the Galax Radio Station as an engineer from 1948 until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Boyer of Galax, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law Michael E. and Julie A. Boyer of Radford, Virginia; Gregory M. and Cathy D. Boyer of Christiansburg, Virginia; grandchildren Leslie and Lindsey Boyer; Brad and Brooks Boyer.

The funeral service will be held Monday, September 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Jeff Callahan and Brother Pete Killon officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Military Rites by Grayson VFW Post 7726. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to either the Twin County Hospice of the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until time for the service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
