W. Warren Melton age 84 of Galax, Virginia departed this life on Sunday, July 4, 2010 in Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mr. Melton was born on May 9, 1926 in Grayson County, Va. to William Hall and Nora Burroughs Melton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Melton Miller Spivey.

He is survived byhis wife Shirley Bartlett Melton of Galax, Va.; three daughters Linda Melton Meador of Roanoke, Va.; Charlotte Ann Melton of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Darlene Melton Weatherman of Galax, Va.. He is also survived by six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Warren served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 and was in the South Pacific. He was recently honored for his years of service with a plaque from the Blue Ridge Veterans Memorial given by his daughters.

He was employed by Burlington Industries and Blue Ridge Transfer Co.,Inc. for a number of years. He was also the owner of the Healing Springs Mobile Home Court. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including boating, fishing and hunting.

The family expresses a special thank you to caretakers Arthur Kyle, Shelby Lineberry and Scott Lamb.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 6:00 pm at Mt. Vale United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffery Callahan and Rev. Rick Lindamood officating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vale U.M. Church Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until service time at Mt. Vale Church.. Those who care to do so may make donations to either Mt. Vale United Methodist Church or Joy Ranch For Children in memory of Warren.
