Vivian Joyce Wooten Russell better known as Joyce Russell age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 in the Forsyth Medical Center.

Mrs. Russell was born in Grayson County, Virginia on June 1, 1938 to William Lester and Virginia Mabel Isom Wooten. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Edward K. Russell; brothers-in-law Ralph Russell; Emmitt Anders; Alex Shupe; Ed Shupe and Tony Shupe; sisters-in-laws Alice Russell and Betty Russell.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law David and Anita Shupe; Brian and Rocky  Shupe; a daughter Cathy Larrowe; sister and brother-in-law Libby and Jackie Joines; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law James Russell; Ted and Mary Alice Russell; BJ and Margie Shupe;  Deloris Shupe; Christine Shupe; Michelle Shupe; sister-in-law Logene Anders; grandchildren Christy Mendoza; Misty Urbina; Josh Shupe; Dee Dee Shupe; Greg Shupe Navaha Shupe and Tiffany Hiatt; great-grandchildren and spouses Jeffery and Mallory Baker Pack; Katelynn Nicole Pack; Brookelynn Jade Pack; special great-great-grandchild Emilia Mandez; great-great-grandchildren James McCall; Kayson Brown; Bree Johnson; Kevin Orellana; Malaya Baynes; Isaiah Shupe; Savanna Shupe; several nieces and nephews; special friends  Kelly Harris and Virginia Nester.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 4:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Sam Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Creek Cemetery in Independence, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
