Virginia June Hale Vaughan better known as Jennie June Vaughan age 95 of Fries, Va. passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in Wytheville Community Hospital. Mrs. Vaughan was born in the Spring Valley Community of Fries, Va. on November 19, 1912 to June Piper & Clyde Reeves Hale. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Jefferson Vaughan; son Dr. Thomas June Vaughan; daughter Charlotte Vaughan Philen; grandson Jeff Vaughan and sister Mary Reeves Hale Jones. She is survived by a granddaughter Hatich Vaughan Mullins of Gatlinburg, Tennessee; grandson Timothy J. Vaughan of Sparta, N.C.; sister & brother-in-law Janie Hale Gentry and her husband Penick Gentry of the Spring Valley Community of Fries, Va.; son-in-law O. Donald Philen, Jr. of Galax, Va.. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was a member with Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy and Rev. Olin Shupe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie-in-state one hour before the funeral service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Mrs. Vaughan was a retired teacher from the Grayson County School System, a very active member with Grayson Farm Bureau and Virginia Farm Bureau, a strong supporter for the Spring Valley Community and the Historical Signifiance of Spring Valley. The family request no flowers please. Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Improvement Fund or to the charity of the donors choice.
