Virginia Dare Bowers age 89 of Galax, Virginia passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, Virginia.

Mrs. Bowers was born on May 30, 1927 in Virginia to Arthur Clarence and Velva Winesett Cox. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Odie Anderson Bowers; son Timothy Blake Bowers and brother Sonny Cox.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Steve Sexton of Galax, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Denise Bowers; Tony and LeAnn Bowers; Jeffery Bowers all of Galax, Virginia; sisters Lori Large of Coburn, North Carolina; Dorothy Davis and Betty Cox both of Galax, Virginia; Shirley Harless of Kansas; Pat Huff of Arizona; brothers Bill Cox and Arthur Cox both of Galax, Virginia; Clarence Cox of West Jefferson, North Carolina; Jim Cox of Ennice, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Snow Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Ernie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Snow Hill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to either the Mountain Valley Hospice, 1477 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, Virginia 24343 or to the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center, P.O. Box 857, Independence, Virginia 24348.
