Virgil Lee Funk, age 69, of Elk Creek, Virginia passed away Friday July 10, 2020 in Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.
Mr. Funk was born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina on August 23, 1950 to the late Cecil and Agnes Poole Funk.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He served in active duty as Sergeant for four years in the Vietnam War and on reserve duty for two years.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Funk of Elk Creek, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Amy and Jon Larson of Mendoda, Virginia; son Adam Funk of Independence, Virginia; grandchildren Justin Funk of Savannah, Georgia, Darcy Funk of Abingdon, Virginia, Heather and Brandon Weikle of Hinton, West Virginia, Everette Larson of Mendoda, Virginia; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and husbands Carolyn and Jimmy Valiant of Shawsville, Virginia, Becky and Troy Stamper of Wytheville, Virginia, Libby Melton of Independence, Virginia, Toni Melton of Wytheville, Virginia; brother-in-law Darrell Melton of Elk Creek, Virginia; and dear friend Gaye Miller of Elk Creek, Virginia.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday July 14 at 11:00 AM in Summerfield United Methodist Church Cemetery with Minister Darrell Melton and Minister Jim McKnight officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Grayson VFW Post #7726. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice 1477 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, Virginia 24343.
