Violet Elizabeth Shaffner Akers age 81 of Fries, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Akers was born in Carroll County, Virginia on May 5, 1934 to Grady and Irene Byrd Shaffner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harold "Mutt" Akers; brother Raymond Shaffner and son-in-law Alan Mastin.

She is survived by daughter and fiance' Glenda Mastin and Dickie Hicks of Fries, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Belenda and Garold Bilbrey of Galax, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Mickey and Debbie Mallory of Fries, Virginia; step-daughter and husband Debbie and Loren McRoberts of Fries, Virginia; and brother and sister-in-law Ira and Betty Shaffner of Fries, Virginia; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; special cousin Mable Duncan.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Ben Haga; the Rev. Barry Newman and Freddie Mallory officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from twelve noon until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
