Vernon Stafford Bedwell, age 96, of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday September 3, 2022 in his home.

Vernon was born on December 14, 1925 in Rural Retreat, Virginia to the late Charles Marlin and Ocie Sexton Bedwell. He was also preceded in death by his brother Allen Bedwell.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Patsy Carrico Bedwell of the home; son and daughter-in-law Ricky and Anne Bedwell of Galax, Virginia; daughter Marsha Mayhew of Lexington, Virginia; grandchildren and spouses Kelly Mayhew of Stephen's City, Virginia, Sarah Mayhew of Lexington, Virginia, John and Jessica Bedwell of Galax, Virginia, Mark and Holly Bedwell of Sedalia, Missouri, Jennifer and Craig Lawson of Hillsville, Virginia, and Jamie Edmonds of Galax, Virginia. Vernon was also survived by 6 great grandchildren Dylan, Will, Kaitlyn, Parker, Bradley, and Alyssa.

Vernon was a member of the West Galax United Methodist Church for 63 years where he was the adult Sunday School Teacher for many years as well as a youth leader. The family wishes to express their most sincere thanks to the staff of Twin County Hospice and to the staff of Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday September 8, 2022 at 2:00PM at the West Galax United Methodist Church with Pastor Ricky Bedwell and Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Felts Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until time of the service at the church.
