Vera Louise Hawks Fortner's Obituary
Vera Louise Hawks Fortner, 71, of Galax, passed away Tuesday September 23, 2014 in the Radford Health and Rehab Center, Radford, Virginia. Mrs. Fortner was born October 28, 1942 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Robert Lawrence and Stella Mae Payne Hawks.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry and Eric Higgins of Galax, Virginia; Crystal Fortner and Thomas Simpkins of Indian Valley, Virginia; grandchildren Keena Vuurmans, Kristen Sayers, Adam Higgins; sister and brother-in-law Kay and Bill Moss of Collinsville, Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law: Terry and Lisa Hawks of Mount Airy, North Carolina; Mark and Donna Hawks of Galax, Virginia; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lambsburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, Virginia.
The family expresses special thanks to Ashley Bailey for her special care to Mrs. Fortner.
