Vera Reavis
Edmonds
July 30, 1927 – January 13, 2019
Vera R. Edmonds (Granny Vera), 91 of Woodlawn, passed away peacefully after a bout with cancer at Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg on Sunday, January 13. She was born July 30, 1927 in Galax, Virginia. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 50 years, Paul Edmonds, her parents, Bruce and Ola Reavis, brothers, William Reavis and Edward Reavis, sisters; Georgia Rhudy, Blanche Rector, Jean Jones, and CoraBelle Diamond, and one step great-grandson, Sammy Brown. She is survived by one sister, Betty Mae Reavis Delp, and two brothers, Hardin Reavis and Warren Reavis.
She is also survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and George McMillan of Salem, Carolyn and Jim Shockley of Blacksburg, Shirley and Lewis Edwards of Woodlawn, and Paulette and Mike Sinnett of Woodlawn. Vera is also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild, seven step grandchildren, sixteen step great- grandchildren, three step great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Vera lived an active and full life. Her favorite saying was "Live, Laugh, Love" and she did plenty of each. She took great pride in her baking skills and loved making chicken and dumplings, cakes, candy, apple butter, and many other treats to share with friends and family. She always loved caring for others. She loved to laugh and share jokes and funny stories. Vera never lost her zest for learning and watched Jeopardy nightly. She was proud to be one of the few 90+ year olds who became computer literate. She enjoyed keeping up with friends and family thru Facebook. One of her best days ever, was being the oldest person to zip line at Breaks Interstate Park, when she was 90 years old.
Vera loved to travel, spend time with her daughters, stay at the beach, listen to bluegrass music, and attend athletic events including Virginia Tech men's and women's basketball games where "Granny Vera" was welcomed by all.
On Wednesday, January 16 th , at 1 o'clock, there will be a Memorial Gathering for friends and family in Warrick Hall at the Galax Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 at the Gardner Cemetery in Hillsville. Arrangements are being handled by Vaughan - Guynn Funeral Home in Galax.
In lieu of flowers, Vera requested donations be made to the Galax Presbyterian Church, 200 West Center Street, P.O. Box 2, Galax, Virginia.
