Vera Kaye Ross Dickens, 85, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026. She was born on October 3, 1940, in Grayson County, Virginia, to the late Anderson Lewis Ross and Viola Osborne Ross.
Vera was a loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Dickens, with whom she shared many wonderful years of love and memories.
She is survived by her daughters, Donnita D. Badajos and Jaclyn Dickens, who meant so much to her and knew how deeply they were loved. She is also survived by her nieces, Dana Dalton and family and Terri Gibson and family, as well as many other family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Vera had a strong love for Christ and her faith was an important part of who she was. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and her Hillcrest church family held a very special place in her heart. She truly loved her church and the people there, and the friendships she made at Hillcrest meant so much to her throughout her life. She enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the church piano, and some of her happiest memories were made there. The love, prayers, friendship, and support of so many of her family and friends were a special part of her life.
For the last four years, Vera made her home at English Meadows Assisted Living in Abingdon, Virginia, where she was surrounded by people who cared for her and came to know and love her. The family is grateful to the staff and community at English Meadows for the kindness, care, and friendship they showed Vera during her time there.
Vera will be remembered for her sweet and kind soul and for the way she cared about others. She had a gentle spirit, a warm smile, and a way of making people feel cared for. She was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched.
Her faith in God was everything to her and it remained an important part of her life until the end, and those who loved her can find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with the Lord she loved so dearly.
