Valerie was born in Covington, Virginia on February 22, 1953 to James Eddie and Merle Kirby Gardner.
She is survived by her husband Michael Rives of Galax, Virginia; sister Rene' Revene; brother Jeff Gardner both of Richmond, Virginia.
