Troy Franklin Murphy, Jr, of Fries, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the Golden Living Center, Galax, VA. Mr. Murphy was born October 9, 1934 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Troy F. Murphy and Nannie Carico Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Vaughan Murphy of Fries; two daughters Carolyn Murphy of Fries, Virginia and Karen Blankenship of Woodlawn, Virginia; three grandchildren Larissa Edwards, Seth Edwards and Connor Blankenship. Two sisters Christine Hall and Coleene Heritage both of Fries, VA; numerous cousins, and special friends Frank Pickett and David Whitesell also survive.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Mike Jefferson officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM Saturday until service time. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Fries Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
