THE FOLLOWING IS A COURTESY ANNOUNCEMENT BY VAUGHAN-GUYNN FUNERAL HOME:
Troy Clark McMillan, 92, of Leesburg, FL and Galax, VA, went to be with the Lord on February 4, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Ireson McMillan and parents Lonnie Clayton McMillan and Georgia Higgins McMillan Howard. His grandfather Troy Clark Higgins, was Galax first Police Chief.
Mr. McMillan is survived by his children, Michael C. McMillan, Sr. of Galax, Troy C. "Corky" McMillan of Lawrenceville, GA and Jennifer Dawn McMillan Daly of Key West, FL and a sister Carolyn Dillon; grandchildren Michael C. McMillan, II, Gregory Scott McMillan, Michael Scott McMillan, step-grandson Bobby T. Peters, two great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter.
Mr. McMillan received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corp., retired from Kroger's as a store manager for 20 years; started his own grocery chain in Winston-Salem, NC; sold 30 stores and retired to Florida and Galax for 30 years. He is a 50 year veteran Ancient, Free and Accepted of the Grand Lodge of Master Masons.
He will be remembered for his kind spirit, sense of humor and Christian love to everyone. He enjoyed his race cars and flying his Cessna airplane.
Memorial service will be held at Galax First Baptist Church, 1024 E. Stuart Drive, Galax, VA, Saturday, May 31st at noon for family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the First Baptist Church. Masonic rites will be administered. A reception and luncheon will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
