Lillie Suedel Stoneman (Wagoner) Bedsaul, known to many as "Mama Sue," passed away Friday morning, January 14, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, N.C. from advanced Parkinson's Disease complications and respiratory problems. Suedel was born September 19, 1935 in the Pipers Gap community near Galax, Virginia, youngest daughter of Coy Bruce Stoneman and Lemma Joyner Stoneman, both deceased. She lived in or near Galax, Va., 1935 to 1953, Winston-Salem/Lewisville, N.C. 1954 to 1972, Boiling Springs, N.C. 1972 to 1973, Spindale, N.C. 1974 to 1976, and Mooresboro/Shelby, N.C. 1976 to 2011. On October 14, 1956 Suedel married Herbert Alan Wagoner at Lewisville Baptist Church, near Winston-Salem, N.C. He passed away on April 18, 1963. On October 16, 1983, she married William David "Bill" Bedsaul at Sandy Run Baptist Church, near Shelby, N.C.
Suedel worked as a Registered Nurse for over 35 years, in a wide variety of nursing roles and settings including Cleveland Regional Medical Center, in Shelby, N.C. and at both Royster and Crawley Hospitals in Boiling Springs, N.C. She was also an instructor, teaching Certified Nursing Assistants at Cleveland Community College.
Survived by husband, William "Bill" Bedsaul of Shelby, N.C.; son, Robert Alan Wagoner and wife Pat Jervison of Durham, N.C.; daughter, Judy Anne Wagoner Skinner and her husband Kenji Skinner of Erie, Pa.; stepson, William David Bedsaul, Jr. of the Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; stepdaughter, Tracey Ann Bedsaul of Santa-Barbara, Calif.; grandsons, Cullen Skinner, age 18 and Morgen Skinner, age 16, of Erie, Pa.; granddaughter, Bridget Bedsaul, age 17, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Sammie Rakes Stoneman of Galax, Va., Opal Speas Stoneman of Winston-Salem, N.C., Betty Moore Bedsaul of Cana, Va., Dorothy Lee Williams of Woodlawn, Va.
Predeceased by husband, Herbert Alan Wagoner of Lewisville, N.C., brothers, Bruce Stoneman of Galax, Va. and James Newell Stoneman of Winston-Salem, N.C., stepson, Bodie Bedsaul, of Topeka, Kan., stepdaughter, Shandy Bedsaul of Santa Barbara, Calif. , sister-in-law, Betty Wilson of Lewisville, N.C.
On Monday, January 17, 2011 the family will receive friends at Cleveland Funeral Services, 2518 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, N.C. from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Phone: 704-487-5811. On Wednesday, January 19, 2011, the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m., with the Funeral Service following at 11 a.m. at Vaughn-Guynn Funeral Home, located at 201 West Center Street, Galax, Virginia. Graveside service will follow at Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery, Galax, Va., with burial in the Stoneman Family plot. Dr. Eric Davis (pastor of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Shelby, N.C.) will officiate. Donations to the Cemetery Fund at Oakland United Methodist Church would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
