Sue White
Lundy
June 29, 1929 – April 7, 2021
Sue White Lundy, 91, of Galax, Virginia flew away to heaven on April 7, 2021. She had a large welcome committee waiting for her with her Lord and Savior, Jesus.
She was the last surviving of seven siblings. Awaiting her arrival were her parents, James Oscar White and Bertie Harrison White, her sisters Ellen Lawson, Jewel Cox, Sandra Cockerham and Carol White; and her brothers Eldridge White and James Clinton White (J.C.)
Also, her beloved husband of 63 years, Nelson Lundy, was there to welcome her home. Sue had grieved for Nelson for the last 11 years and looked forward to being in his arms once more. Her joy is now complete.
She was born on June 29, 1929 and often joked that she brought in the Great Depression. She loved being outdoors, tending her flowers and working in her garden. She was known for her fried apple pies, black raspberry preserves and old fashioned "Lundy Fudge" that she made yearly for the Lord's Acre Sale. Most of her offerings were purchased in the week before the sale, by repeat buyers each year. She was a long-time member of Cranberry Christian Church until poor health prevented her from attending.
Sue was an avid reader and loved to read the encyclopedias on her bookshelves as though they were novels. It was a given that Ron and Pat would attend college from the time they started school. Sue graduated from Woodlawn High School class of 1947. She regretted not being able to further her education and was determined that her children would. She was a Mama Bear when it came to her children. She was fearless in advocating for them, whether it was with a high school principal in his home, or a college dean in his office. She always stressed the importance of family ties and nurtured that bond of love in her children and grandchildren. Family meant everything to her.
Sue retired from Sprague Electric in Hillsville and loved the friends she made there.
Along with being the matriarch of our family, she was known as Mother, Mom, Mama, Mimi and Grandma.
Next to God, she loved her family more than anything and showered them with love and affection.
Left behind to cherish her loving memory and sweet smile are her son Ronald Lundy (Judy), her daughter Patricia Davis (Richard) her 3 grandchildren Stephanie Benne (Phil), Scott Lundy (Nicole) and Ashlee Ayers (Jim); her five great grandsons Andrew Benne, Alex Benne, Max Benne, Charlie Lundy and Marshall Lundy. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews who stayed in touch with her.
As Sue's memories faded and her health worsened, she spent the last 3 years of her life at Richfield's Joseph C. Thomas Memory Care Center in Salem, Virginia. We cannot begin to express our appreciation for the lovely ladies who welcomed mom to their "neighborhood", cared for her as their own and showered her with love and attention. Mom always talked about the nice "hotel" she was staying in and how sweet everyone was. Julie, Tammy, Judy, Jody, Amanda, Linda, Deidre and Sherrie are earthly angels, and we will be eternally grateful for their loving hearts and friendship.
We also want to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their care, which allowed us to spend the last 30 days with Mother and to be with her as she left the world.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 12 noon at the Monta Vista Cemetery in Galax, Virginia with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
