Sidney Sherman Davis, Sr. age 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Davis was born in Carroll County, Virginia on June 11, 1929 to Ernest Freeman and Victoria Hawkins Davis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Kate Lovern Davis and his son Sidney Sherman Davis, Jr..

He is survived by his wife Joyce Davis of Galax, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Earl Bender of Galax, Virginia; step-children and spouses Melissa and Jerry Fore; Billy and Crystal Savage; Tommy and Janet Savage; Johnny and Sabrina Savage all of Galax, Virginia; Bobby and Holly Savage of Woodlawn, Virginia; daughter-in-law Maxie Davis of Fries, Virginia; sisters Mildred Waters of Georgia; Thelma Walker of Galax, Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law Ernest and Diane Davis of Fries, Virginia; Jack and Nellie Davis; Carl and Karen Davis all of Galax, Virginia; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Camet Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
