Shirley Jean Worrell Akers born November 14, 1934 in Carroll County, Virginia made her transition at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Center, Winston Salem, North Carolina on November 20, 2024.

Jean lived in the Woodlawn area for eighty years before moving to Winston Salem for health reasons. She worked at Kroger for thirty-five years and was an active member at Mt. Olivet Community Church (formerly known as Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church). Jean was an avid reader and loved to watch sports, yelling at the TV when there was a bad call…in her opinion. She was always quick with advice, a recipe, or a joke, whichever was needed.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie G. "C.G" Akers, Jr, her mother, Margie Winesett Worrell Lundy, and her father, Ivy Sidney Worrell.

She is survived by a son Wiley Mac Akers of Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville, North Carolina; daughter Lynn Akers Hawks of Pfafftown, North Carolina; grandchildren Heather Leedy Donavant (Randy) of Rural Hall, North Carolina; Justin Spencer Akers of Reidsville, NC; Chelsea Ann Akers of Stoneville, North Carolina; great grandchildren Randall Chase Donavant and Tyler James Donavant. Several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

A special thanks from the family for their care and support during Jean's illness: Arbor Ridge at Stanleyville; Trellis Supportive Care; Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Palliative Care Unit.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Mt Olivet Community Church Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will be in the Coulson Cemetery at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Center.
