Shirley Ann Smith Key
12/12/1946 – 10/08/2023 (76)
Our dearly loved Mom, 'Ba', and Grandma went to Heaven Sunday morning, October 8, 2023.
She was born in Grayson County, Virginia, to Mitchell Boyd and Hallie Galyean Smith. In 1994, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Key, Jr. She was a Christian lady who loved, trusted, and lived for God. She loved like Jesus and made her friends, family, and even acquaintances feel loved. She is adored and highly praised by her family, her church family, and a multitude of friends.
She decided early that being a wife, mom, and homemaker was her calling, and to prioritize that she became a babysitter and motherly influence to many other children who love her dearly to this day. The atmosphere in her home was inviting, loving, and fun.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila Key and Sabrina and James Holden; a son Greg Key and a daughter-in-law Pamela Hart Key; five grandchildren who were the apples of her eye: Brooklyn Key, John Key, Branden Holden, Todd Key, and Kaitlyn Holden. She is also survived by a brother, John Wayne Smith, and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy and Harry Crouse and Janet Smith; as well as sisters- and brothers-in-law Scarlett and Dale Rucker, Rita Key, and Randy and Dena Key.
All services will be held at Haven of Rest Bible Church on Edmonds Road. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening, October 10, from 6:00 – 8:00pm. The body will lie in state Wednesday, October 11, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, preceding the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Pastor David Spivey and Pastor Matt Ellison will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery.
Flowers are appreciated, or memorial donations may be made in her memory to Haven of Rest Bible Church. Family and friends are welcome to visit the family at her home on Edmonds Road.
