Shirley Wilson Shumate age 83 of Galax, Virginia on Monday, July 20, 2026 in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center.
Shirley was born on October 6, 1942 in Grayson County, Virginia to Robert and Ivan Burnette Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lanny Lavon Shumate.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Cary and Paige Shumate; Michael and Kristin Shumate all of Galax, Virginia; two sisters Colleen Hudson of Ennice, North Carolina; Mary Weatherford of Bedford, Virginia; three grandchildren Bailey Cheek (Austin); Stacy Farmer (Trent); and Eliana Shumate; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Linda Wilson of Galax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Camp Zion Church with Pastor Rodney Christman officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 pm until time for the funeral service at the Camp Zion Church.
