Shirley Grace Melton passed away on March 16, 2026, at the age of 90.  She was survived by her husband Ray Melton, son, Craig Melton, daughter in law Sandy Melton, daughter, Jill Sage, granddaughter Sophia Thompson, grandchildren, Nathan Ray, Ben Ray, Rebecca Moses, sister Jane Mckee, sister in law, Lynda Cooper and sister in law Paula Cooper.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight Cooper, mother Blanche Sessie Gualtney Cooper, stepmother, Ruth Cooper, brothers Jerry Cooper and Lowell Cooper.

Shirley Grace Melton, a cherished soul graced the world on March 3, 1936, born in the heart of Ashe County, NC. Her compassionate spirit lead her to nursing, where she lovingly pursued her education at Pulaski Hospital and furthered her studies at MCV in Richmond.  With a tender heart, she dedicated her skills to the Obstetrics Unit at Waddell Hospital, nurturing new beginnings.  Later, her unwavering commitment shone brightly as she became the beloved OB Supervisor at Twin County Regional Hospital leaving a legacy of care and devotion.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a faithful servant of Christ and an active member of the First Christian Church in Galax, VA where she spent many years in retirement dedicating her time to visiting people in the nursing home and singing in the church choir.  She exemplified the love of Jesus to others.

Shirley's  presence will be deeply missed by those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.

The funeral service will be held Thursday March 19, 2026 at 11:00AM in First Christian Church with Pastor Glen Sage officiating. Entombment will follow in Monta Vista Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of the service in First Christian Church.
