Shirley Joyce Fender age 74 of Galax, Va. passed away Sunday, August 13, 2006 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. She was born on August 10, 1932 in Carroll County, Va. to the late Otey and Nettie Tilson Dillon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Porter Temple Fender. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Ann & Dennis Everett Alderman of Woodlawn, Va.; a son & daughter-in-law, James Robert & Sherry Fender of Woodlawn, Va.; a sister, Lillian Pauline Burnette of Independence, Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews also survive. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Myron Dalton and K.T. Carico officiating. Burial will follow in McKenzie Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from seven unitl nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
