Selma Dickson Anderson of Galax passed away Saturday morning, October 11, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents Walter W. and Maude Jones Dickson. Also three brothers, Pearne, Kyle and Kent Dickson and two sisters Evon Smythey and Bernice Blevins. Her son Thomas C. Bottomley also predeceased her.

She is survived by her daughter Vicki Bottomley Lyle of Hardy, VA, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Anderson was born on Silas Creek in Ashe County, NC. She graduated early from high school as salutatorian of her senior class and was a county spelling bee champion and attended Braught Business School in Winston Salem all before she was 17 years old. She worked in Galax for over thirty years as the office manager for White Chevrolet Sales. She was a member of the local business and professional women's club and a member of the First Methodist Church in Galax. Her interests and hobbies ran from being an accomplished bowler, to playing cards, to needlework of all kinds. And of course raising her two children.

In her retirement she also served as a Pink Lady at the local hospital. Later in life she became a great reader. It was not unusual for her to finish reading three novel in a week's time.

She spent many years in Waddell Nursing Home where she was treated with expert and loving care. She loved everyone there and only had kind words for all the staff who worked there. The family is deeply grateful for the care that she received there and treasure the compliment that the staff gave her as being a "true southern lady". The family also wishes to express their gratitude for the kind assistance given by the staff of Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, Virginia.

There will be a private family service for her at a later date.
