Sara Hester
Lindsey
December 18, 1932 – May 6, 2025
Sara Hester Lindsey, 92, of Galax, VA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. After a short hospital stay, she passed away peacefully at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC, surrounded by the deep love of her family.
Born on December 18, 1932, in Fries, VA, Sara was the daughter of Wilmer and Aleen Hester. She grew up in a close-knit community that shaped her lifelong devotion to family, faith, and service. She attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol and graduated from Roanoke Business College.
Sara was married to the love of her life, Joe Lindsey of Galax, for 71 wonderful years. Together they raised a family rooted in love and laughter.
Sara began her career as a HeadStart and kindergarten teacher. She later found her calling at Galax Social Services, where she worked diligently until her retirement.
A long-time member of First Baptist Church in Galax, Sara cherished singing in the choir and serving on the Fellowship Team and nursery. She found great joy in her church family and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Her life was rich in the things that matter most: laughter, love, and togetherness. She delighted in every sporting event, dance recital, school program, and family gathering. Her servant's heart, sharp wit, and enduring sense of humor—even in her final days—made her a treasured presence to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dick Hester and George Hester.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joe Lindsey; her children: Debbie Lindsey Carlson (Wayne), Sandie Lindsey Galyean, Jeff Lindsey (Amy), and Martha Lindsey Cogdill (Mickey); grandchildren: Stephanie Goff (Daniel), Lindsey Day (Levi), Rachel Galyean, Katie Pryslak (Erik), Michael Tate (Morgan), Beth Galyean, Jordan Lindsey, Joshua Lindsey (Katie), Clayton Cogdill (Erin), Christopher Cogdill, Devan Beaver (Damian), and Emily Klutz (Ben); and great-grandchildren: Marleigh Day, Kendall Day, Lockelan Tate, Rory Goff, Peyton Pryslak, Shiloh Galyean, Parker Pryslak, Tennasyn Beaver, Collins Beaver, Barrett Klutz, and Banks Klutz.
Sara's life was a beautiful example of grace, joy, and devotion. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Galax, VA. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10am.
