Sanford Jefferson Burnette, age 65, of Galax, VA, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC.

Mr. Burnette was born Aug, 21, 1948 in Carroll County , VA to Fletcher Arlo and Mallie Melinda Bowers Burnette. Preceding him in death were his parents and granddaughter, Santana Marie (Sisy) Miller and brothers, Delbert Burnette, Monty Burnette, Joseph Burnette, & sister, Oneda Smythers.

He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy.

Survivors includes his wife, Jacqueline D. Burnette of the home; sons, Michael Burnette, SanDiego, CA and Dennis Burnette, Oklahoma; step-son, Timothy James Miller, Galax, VA; grandchildren, Eli Chase Vaughan, Cindy Burnette, Christopher Burnette; sister & brother-in-law, Ada Lee & Elmer Williams, Galax, VA; brothers & sisters-in-law, Fletcher A. Burnette, Jr. & Lou, Draper, VA, Billy A. Burnette & Ann, Galax, VA. Several nieces & nephews, also, survive.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM preceding the funeral service on Wednesday. Officiating ministers will be Pastor James Smith, The Rev. Woynal Smythers and the Rev. Billy Burnette. Military rites will be performed by the Grayson VFW Post #7726.
