Samuel (Sam) Ray Moore born June 6, 1931 Fries, Virginia, in Grayson County, Virginia the son of the late Mack Gale and Stella Mae Atkins Moore passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home Winston-Salem, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Wanda Moore Alderman, brothers; Robert (Bob) Lake Moore and William (Bill) Gale Moore.
Sam is survived by his dear and devoted wife Edna Chappell Moore of sixty plus years; a close niece Linda Alderman Hall, husband Argell of Asheboro, North Carolina; a niece Joyce Moore Davis of Galax, Virginia; two sisters-in-law: Mary Moore, of Gaylord, Michigan and Clarice Moore of Woodlawn, Virginia; two first cousins Mary Nell Ward, Independence, Virginia and Douglas (Doug) Atkins and wife Susie of Woodlawn, Virginia. A loving uncle and great uncle, great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Sam was a member of First Assembly (Winston First). He served as an usher for many years and a member of the Men's Ministry.
Sam was a veteran of the US Airforce Military.
During his span of years in Galax, Virginia he was employed at Globman's, Inc. and Peoples Drug Store. After relocating to Winston-Salem, he was employed at Norman Stockton and Stein Mart as a loyal employee for twenty-two years.
In Fries High School he was active in football, basketball, baseball and tennis. Later in life he enjoyed the fame of golf and was an avid player until declining health.
Sam was a loving, caring husband, uncle great uncle, great-great uncle and friend to many.He will be remembered for his lasting personality, for his strength, his love for people, his love for gospel music and a great sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Vaughan Guynn Funeral Home Chapel, Galax, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time for the service. Burial will follow at Monta Vista Cemetery, Galax, Virginia.
Memorial may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospital Home, 101 Hospice Line, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to charity of one's choice.
