Obituary

Samuel Lynn Blair passed away on the morning of Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Sammie was born on January 31, 1945, in Galax, VA, to parents Lynwood and Anna Blair.

From an early age, he harbored a love for sports. He played baseball and football at Galax High School, and spent his adult years coaching Little League baseball and playing golf on the weekends. Sammie graduated from Virginia Tech in 1967 with a degree in Industrial Engineering, leading to a job in the textile industry for over 30 years. Sam and Nancy spent a number of years pursuing their careers and raising their family in North Carolina, then chose to return to Galax for their retirement.

One of his greatest sources of joy in life was his grandchildren, whom he enjoyed taking to play mini golf and visit the duck pond at Virginia Tech. Sammie also enjoyed being a very active member of First Baptist Church in Galax and a strong Christian who strove to be Christ-like in everything he did. His love for God was unparalleled, and he shared his faith with as many people as possible.

Sammie is survived by his wife Nancy Hudson Blair, daughters Janet Blair (Ken Duggins) and Ginger Maples (Stacy), grandchildren Jonathan and Samuel Ford, step grandson James Harlan Maples, and his loving dog Cosby.
