Sadie Beatrice Carico Higgins age 86 of Galax, Virginia passed away at her home on Monday, April 18, 2011.
Mrs. Higgins was born in Grayson County, Virginia on June 5, 1924 to the late
Elbert Boyd and Dorothy Patton Carico. She was the seventh of thirteen children and was blessed with five sisters and seven brothers. Her brother, Dempsey, was killed in World War II.
She was a loving mother who loved her children dearly and is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law Judy & Kenny Lewis of Chilhowie, Virginia; Jackie and Robin Smith of Galax, Virginia and son Danny Ray Higgins of Galax, Virginia; grandchildren Matthew Lewis and wife Lindsay; and Joshua Lewis; sister Lucille Hester of Fries, Virginia; brothers Dan Carico and Steele Carico both of Fries, Virginia; several nieces and nephews. She was married to Ray Higgins now deceased.
Mrs. Higgins was a member of the Coal Creek Church where she sang in the choir. She was retired from Penry's Manufacturing as a sewing machine operator.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Gary Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Coal Creek Community Church Cemetery Fund.
