Rubye Celene Combs Cockerham, age 99, of  Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the daughter of the late William Lawrence and Emma Combs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Milo Cockerham, son Jimmy Cockerham, and granddaughter Leslie Marie White. Milo and Rubye were founders of Milo C. Cockerham, Inc. where she worked until age 95. She was a devoted member of the Oakland United Methodist Church where she served as choir director for a number of years. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Danny and Carolyn Cockerham, Randy Cockerham; one daughter and son-in-law Susan and Joe White, daughter-in-law Jackie Ceary; special family friend,  Lee Ann Cockerham, eleven grandchildren Jill, Catherine, David, Jenna, Allison, Brady, Emily, Rachel, Milo, Jamie and Travis; five great-grandchildren Nolan, Luke, Everly, Conner and Raelynn; one step-grandchild Austin; sister Hilda Windle of Woodstock, Georgia; sister-in-law Georgetta Assaid of Venice, Florida; several nieces and nephews.

A drive thru only visitation will be held Saturday, May 30 from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. A private graveside service for the family will be held following the visitation with the Rev. Tim Smith and the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Oakland Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, C/O Oakland United Methodist Church, 4987 Pipers Gap Road, Galax, VA. 24333.
