Ruby Irene (Whitlock) Hash, 90, passed away Monday November 13, 2006 at Grace Health Care, Abingdon, Va.. She was born on April 26, 1916 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late William Jacob and Ella Mae (Warwick) Whitlock. After her mother's death she and her sister lived in Jonesboro, Tennessee, and later she stayed with her father in Fries, Va. where they worked in a mill. She married William Fred Hash on October 5, 1946 in Bel Air , Maryland and they lived in Maryland while he worked at the arsenal in Edgewood. Ruby and Fred moved to Galax, Va. upon his retirement and after his death in 1974, she continued to live there with her stepmother, Grace Whitlock. In recent years, Ruby has been living at Hillcrest Adult Care in Meadowview, Va.. Ruby was also preceded in death by her only sibling, Ruth (Whitlock) Poteat, who died in 2002. She is survived by one niece Betty (Poteat) Olds of Spartanburg, S.C.. A graveside service will be held at Felts Memorial Cemetery in Galax on Friday November 17. 2006 at 1:00 PM. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
