Roy Wayne Barrett age 89 of Fries, Virginia passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mr. Barrett was born on August 25, 1935 in Grayson County, Virginia to Roy Grady and Verla Billings Barrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Barrett; daughters Mary Rakes; Vickie Dowling and son Jackie Martin.

He proudly served his country in the US Army.

He is survived by his daughter Billie Martin; son Darren Barrett; brother Odell Barrett all of Fries, Virginia; sister Helen Spencer of Lynchburg, Virginia;   son-in-law Gordon Rakes of Galax, Virginia; seven grandchildren Trenda Kinzer Jill Lam; Kandi Vaughan; Susan Maxwell; Beth Barrett; Tony Vaughan and; Tanner Barrett; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Providence Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Vaughan officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Fries Rescue Squad.
