Roy Thomas Alderman, age 97, of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday March 5, 2022 in the Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin. Roy received an honorary diploma for serving our country in the Navy during World War II.

Roy was born on October 6, 1924 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Hobert & Emma Morgan Alderman. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ila Mae Alderman; sister Helen Alderman; two sons Duane Alderman and Richard Alderman Sr.; grandson Richard Bartlett and son-in-law Elwood Bartlett.

He is survived by his daughter Louise Alderman Bartlett of Yorktown, Virginia; daughters-in-law Diane Anderson and Joyce Alderman; grandchildren and their spouses Susan Carico & Ronnie, Sarah Lynn Alderman, Thomas Alderman, Richard Alderman Jr. and Michelle, Christie Scalf and Chris; nine great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday March 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the West Galax First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Dalton Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of the service at the church.
