Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronnie Alan Gravley at home on December 29, 2024.  Born on April 21, 1947 Ronnie lived a life rich in love, faith, and music.  Ronnie was a devoted husband to Brenda for 54 years, a loving father to Bryan & Brett, and a cherished friend to anyone that knew him.

Ronnie was more than a revered engineering tech of 31 years at Volvo, traveling over the country and overseas to assist in building some of the first trucks that you see on the road today.  He was a jack of all trades, master of most.  Whether it be working on cars or building anything that happened to enter his mind as a master carpenter.  His love of sports including baseball, basketball, and drag racing, the latter of which allowed him to announce at Elk Creek Dragway as a backup announcer for many years.  He loved bluegrass and gospel music whether it be driving a band on bass, picking guitar, or lending his high tenor harmonies music led to countless fellowship and friends including opening for some of the biggest names in bluegrass music and once for George Jones.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his one true love, Brenda Boyer Gravley, and his parents, Alex and Helen Gravley.  He is survived by his sons, Bryan Gravley and Brett Gravley, fiancé Faith, and stepson Conner.  His sisters Phyliss and Eddie King of Wytheville, Delores & Ralph Boone of Galax, mother-in-law Pauline Boyer of Dublin and sister-in-law Robin & Brian Taylor of Clear Fork WV, special friends Alan Underwood, Gene Byrd, Eddie & Bonnie Bond all of Fries and his special dog Clyde, and many beloved friends and extended family members.  His legacy of music and love will forever live on in the heart of those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday January 4th , 2025 at Vaughan Guynn in Galax with visitation from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM, with funeral service following at 1:00 PM.  Burial will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery, Fries, VA
