Roger Carpenter

Roger Gilmer Carpenter age 78 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, August 24, 2026 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Roger was born in Pulaski, Virginia on December 23, 1947 to Gilmer Wilson and Amanda Primm Carpenter.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Jean Carpenter Jett.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Wright Carpenter of Galax, Virginia; daughter Haley Carpenter; son Roger Tyler Carpenter both of Washington, DC; sister Christine C. Beck of Hillsville, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home.
