Roberta Mae Edwards Custer Cole age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Cole was born in Alleghany County, North Carolina on March 7, 1933 to James David (Jim) and Ella Johnson Edwards. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Franklin (Bob) Custer; son Robert Vernon Custer and grandson Jeffery Franklin Custer.

She is survived by her husband Edd Cole of the home, daughter and son-in-law Nancy and James Christman of Baywood, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Robert Allen and Joyce Custer of Galax, Virginia; step-daughter and spouse Rhonda and Tony Carper of Galax, Virginia; step -son Ricky Cole of Fries, Virginia; sisters Eura Lee Phipps and Carol Murphy both of Sparta, N.C.; Linda Todd of Glade Springs Golf Resort of Daniels, West Virginia; brother Mack Edwards of Ennice, North Carolina; grandchildren Heather Edwards, Jason Burnette and Justin Burnette; step-grandchildren Tabitha Bailey, Andrew Jones and Kayla Slate; six great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Garry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Glade Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
