Robert Earl Shaffner, Sr. age 101 of Fries, Virginia passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Shaffner was born in Carroll County, Virginia on October 29, 1914 to Tyra and Addie Bourne Shaffner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jeanetta Yates Shaffner; sisters Edith Linville, Marie Pearman and Onita Bourne and brothers Marvin Shaffner and Sam Shaffner.

Mr. Shaffner was a self-employed farmer and logger and was employed at the Fries Cotton Mill for several years. He had a log cabin in the woods and loved going to it.

He is survived by his son Robert (Bud) Shaffner, Jr. of Fries, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Keith Moxley of Galax, Virginia; brothers Coy Shaffner and Virgil Shaffner both of Fries, Virginia; Kyle Shaffner of Wytheville, Virginia; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special family friends Shelby and Nick Edgington of Fries, Virginia.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Providence Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Watson officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
