Robert Vaughan Morris, Jr. age 68 of Jacksonville, Florida and formerly of Galax, Va. passed away Friday, October 31, 2008 after a long illness in Jacksonville, Florida. The son of Ethel Robbins Morris and Robert Vaughan Morris, Sr., Robert was born in Roanoke, Virginia on January 3, 1940. Robert is survived by a son Robert Vaughan Morris III "Bob" and his wife Latrelle of Jacksonville, Florida; a grandson Robert Vaughan Morris IV "Bobby" of Neptune Beach, Florida. Also surviving are his brothers Dr. Thomas R. Morris and his wife Barbara-lyn of Mechanicsville, Va.; David P. Morris, Sr. and his wife Linda of Roanoke, Va.; five nieces and one nephew. After graduating from Danville Technical Institute, he ran printing businesses in Martinsville and Galax and taught printing in high school in Georgetown, South Carolina. He retired to the lake in Clarksville, Virginia. He was co-founder of the R.V. Morris and Ethel R. Morris Scholarship Fund, a four-year academic scholarship offered to students at Galax High School. While in Galax, he was a member of the Galax Fire Department, the Galax Jaycees, and vice-president of WBOB radio station. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10:00 am in the First Christian Church with Rev. Casey McKenna officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
